France's attempt to lock Britain out of EU defence spending has backfired on Paris itself. The French government pushed for strict eligibility criteria on cheap EU loans intended to fund European rearmament, only to find that those same rules now exclude French projects from the financing. The Financial Times reports that Paris, which had championed the curbs partly to keep post-Brexit Britain at arm's length, is now losing the cheap loans it wanted to unlock.
