The Channel crossings crisis has crashed into Andy Burnham's first week as Prime Minister, with a second "mega boat" carrying over 100 asylum seekers spotted heading for Dover — the first major crossings under the new government. A record-breaking craft with 128 people had already arrived on July 10. So far this year, more than 11,800 migrants have made the crossing, though that's down 46% from the same period in 2025.
